Hi Experts,
We are facing a modeling question in a consolidation environment and we would like to know your opinion about it.
Suppose that we have a balance Sheet chart of accounts in which each base level account are differenced by last digit: 0 -- short term, 1 -- long term.
Example of chart of account Dimension:
Balance sheet VALUE
Assets
Assets
10101
1010101 (long term) 10
1010100 (short term) 1
10151
1015101 (long term) 11
1015100 (short term) 2
....
Liabilities
20101
2010101 (long term) 12
2010100 (short term) 3
20151
2015101 (long term) 13
2015100 (short term) 4
....
Support that we have to built a report like this:
Balance Sheet
Short term: VALUE
Assets
10101 10
10151 11
....
Liabilities
20101 12
20151 13
Long term:
Assets
10101 1
10151 2
....
Liabilities
20101 3
20151 4
Option 1: Is a best practice idea to create a new dimension e.g."TERM" with two members: SHORT TERM and LONG TERM, then create this report
nesting Accounts and term like this:
TERM DIMENSION ACCOUNT DIMENSION VALUE
SHORT TERM Balance Sheet
SHORT TERM Assets
SHORT TERM 10101
SHORT TERM 1010101 (long term)
SHORT TERM 1010100 (short term) 10
SHORT TERM 10151
SHORT TERM 1015101 (long term)
SHORT TERM 1015100 (short term) 11
SHORT TERM Liabilities
SHORT TERM 20101
SHORT TERM 2010101 (long term)
SHORT TERM 2010100 (short term) 12
SHORT TERM 20151
SHORT TERM 2015101 (long term)
SHORT TERM 2015100 (short term) 13
LONG TERM Balance Sheet
LONG TERM Assets
LONG TERM 10101
LONG TERM 1010101 (long term) 1
LONG TERM 1010100 (short term)
LONG TERM 10151
LONG TERM 1015101 (long term) 2
LONG TERM 1015100 (short term)
LONG TERM Liabilities
LONG TERM 20101
LONG TERM 2010101 (long term) 3
LONG TERM 2010100 (short term)
LONG TERM 20151
LONG TERM 2015101 (long term) 4
LONG TERM 2015100 (short term)
Option 2: Is a best practice idea to manage this case by creating a parenth2 attribute in account dimension and define two balance sheet:
One for Short term, the another one for long term?
see the example:
ACCOUNT DIMENSION VALUE
Balance sheet
STAssets
ST1010
1010100 (short term) 10
ST1015
1015100 (short term) 11
....
STLiabilities
ST2010
2010100 (short term) 12
ST2015
2015100 (short term) 13
LTAssets
LT1010
1010101 (long term) 1
LT1015
1015101 (long term) 2
....
LTLiabilities
LT2010
2010101 (long term) 3
LT2015
2015101 (long term) 4
Please your opinion what should be the best way for modeling?
Thanks for your help
